The Process

This site provides a chance for you, the future users of the skatepark, to tell us what you would like included in the design.  It is an important part of the consultation process for the skatepark.

We want to gather information on the following:

  • What type of park do you want
  • The range of ability of skaters who will be using the park:
    For example; beginner, intermediate, experienced
  • Specific features: For example; handrails in the street-style area, bowl shape, steps, fun box
  • Other features you would like to see: For example;
somewhere to shelter from the sun and rain

Important things to remember when having your say:

WE ARE NOT DESIGNING DISNEYLAND

There are overriding design constraints that may limit the final outcomes, they are:

  • Like all projects this one has a budget that limits the size and design of the park we can build
  • The skatepark is designed for skateboarding
  • The skatepark will sit alongside other facilities in Barry Curtis Park such as the half-court basketball and regional play areas.

Manukau City Council believes it is important that future users of the skatepark have input and provide feedback into its design. The designers will try to include as much of these ideas as possible into the final plans.

TIMELINE

Consultation closes on 15 December 2009.  Construction of the skatepark is scheduled to begin in early 2010.

  1. Hey there should definately be a really large open space for street skaters because i think the larger population are street skaters. There needs to be lots of ledges not to low but not so high only pros can do them a couple of fun boxes with enough space to get speed up to them and there also definately needs to be car parks.

  2. Just a mean street skatepark

  3. hey a sick 3 stair would be cool

  4. I like the idea of a plaza style skatepark, It seems like thats the future for skateboarding, as u may have heard of a new skate comp set up by Rob dydrek http://www.streetleague.com and all the course’s are plaza’s

  5. And is there any kind of lighting, what about having the park lit up at night, so us skaters can get a session in even while its dark , especialy in winter when it gets dark realy quick.

  6. Hi James, no lights are planned inside the park.

  7. well m8 planning is an iterative process, so why not replan some lights?

  8. Yes I agree about the lights, would be so much better if there were lights, wouldnt cost that much and would enable night sessions most of the time now in winter you cant ride at a park past 6.00.

  9. I agree lights would be awsm.
