Thanks to all you keen skaters for your awesome feedback. Our Technical Advisory Committee developed your ideas and these were reviewed by experienced skatepark builders from New Zealand and Australia.
We’re now getting the detailed drawings done so that we can appoint a contractor to start building. You can look forward to using the park by the middle of the year.
Thanks again for your help. Keep visiting the site to check out how the park is progressing.

Hey,
Nice work on the park… It looks like the end product will be amazing. I know this is a draft design, but there appears to be some fundamental mistakes in the design. Like, ledges of stairs that are the same height as the top of the stairs, and obstacles too close to each other (less is more!). Also, there appears to be a very features that have no run up or landing?! That’s just a few observations. Anyway, good luck with getting the park finished, overall it looks incredible.

Love the changes, well done. Now here’s hoping you choose a contractor that specialises in skateparks, not footpaths as they did with Otara.

take out that wave, and replace it with a bank or quater. The wave is facing a wall, and therfore unusable unless u just do lip tricks..

The Ledge by the 9 stair needs some work.
Make the ledge about a foot higher than the top of the stairs. This will make it better for grinds and slides. Also, take out those two trees and have nice smooth concrete in their place. This will allow for skaters to do wheelies or “Manuals” on it.
Another good thing to do there would be making run up on either side of the ledge, so skaters can approach the ledge frontside or backside as the please.

please don’t let a cheap inexperienced contractor blow it like otara. very very specialised stuff. too many failures all over auckland between good design and bad build.. get a pro please… and yaaay wooo!

Way cool. Manukau is going to rule. My kids and their mates are going to love this place. Yeah, make sure you get an experienced pool/bowl contractor to lay it down. Auckland has had a lot of opportunities ruined by bad builds from lack of experience. Skatepark construction is now on par with yacht building – lets keep the professionalism.

@martyn i asked tim at Btown about the wave and he told me that it actually goes into vert so its more of a wall ride.. you cant do anything off it. it’s not like the one at owairaka

THis looks like a great design to cater for all styles and levels of sakteboarding. If the right contractor is awarded this contract, then this saktepark will be a testament to the foresight of a local government that had the balls to put itself ahead of other city councils like Auckland.
My vote for Super city Mayor will go to Len Brown for sure!

great work on the design tim hope it all comes together with ease and materials used are of high quality built by a contractor with knowlegde of the skateboarding industry .
my only wish is that you guys put some thought into the safety of the park considering graffitti and yonger skaters getting bullied or gear stolen from them etc . but all together i cant wait to skate ! all the best for the construction and i know there will be pleanty of eyes watching this project in the hope that the end product is success

has there been any thought put into lighting ? for the more serious skaters at night , i know durying peak times this park will be packed mainly with young children and familys which is fine but i think the more serious skaters out there would struggle to enjoy the park while it is packed over weekend day time . and maybe some flood ligths that would turn on around 7pm and stay on till 10pm or 11pm over weekends would allow new zealanders up and comers to really train there skills and maybe produce some world ranked skaters . i personally think lighting of the park would really improve this stucture and be the iceing on the cake

Yeah totally agree with LLAMA. Lights would be great, especially for winter when it gets dark early
