plazas are cool… for skaters who like to skate street only BUT that’s limiting your options BIG TIME! check all the decent overseas parks – they all have a mixture of terrain cos “good” skaters mix it up. i love this design but imho it’s only half of what’s needed. a good skatepark should have a blend of street plaza AND transition terrain including bowls ranging from small to large vert pools plus something like a snake run – check the brand new venice beach park to see what i’m talking about – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9H1lUpjL70

As a skater and as someone who has experience with skatepark design/planning, I would advocate for more bowls and street format than plaza, but cool choices all.
Whichever format, make sure to include some beginner use areas
Regarding PLAZA format, why not create a ’skate friendly’ policy within Flatbush that would allow skaters to use the plaza spaces? Build great skate links between the BC skatepark and Flatbush town centre for the best of all types of riding (even longboards!)

I personally would choose this over the other designs. In my opinion a large group of the skaters these days are riding street and new Zealand is quite rare for really good street spots unless you really know were to look.
Allthouh this design is really good, i also do think it may need a bit of transition, allowing everyone to enjoy the facility.
If they were to incorperate some transition features into this design, i think it would easily become one of the best skate parks in New Zealand.
I still personally think that this is my favorite design yet, but that is purely my opinion.
